Future Firm Weekly Top 5
By Ryan Lazanis • Issue #32 • View online

I like checking my newsletter stats pretty frequently.
One thing that I find interesting is that there is a large percentage of people who open these emails within minutes or even seconds of it being sent out.
Believe me, I’m like that as well.
We are all so hyper connected, to the point of it not being healthy.
You need to know what’s happening in your firm by the second. Whether it’s a client matter, an employee question or a new deal that you’re working on. Putting your phone away is practically impossible.
My advice?
But how?
One thing that I do is after a certain time (say around 7pm), I put my phone in another room for the remainder of the night and don’t check it until the next day.
I also turn off email notifications on my iPad. The last thing I want is to be dinged with something that will put me in a bad mood while I’m watching the latest episode of Stranger Things at 10pm.
But my favourite thing to do to unplug?
Going to destinations that allow me to unwind while putting the phone away (preferably somewhere with no cell phone reception).
Here’s me in Tadoussac, Quebec (great spot if you’re looking spend a few days somewhere!) last weekend, pondering my next move, clearly.
Be sure to take some time throughout each day and throughout the year to unplug from your device.
